Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a Firearms Licence?
In most provinces you first have to be tested by a certified instructor for the Canadian Firearms Safety Course. After passing the test you complete a licence application and send it to the Canadian Firearms Centre. You should receive your licence in 1-2 months.

Can I do my CFSC/CRFSC exam on-line?
No, as there is a practical gun handling component to the exam, it cannot be done online.

How can doing an on-line practice exam help me with my practical test?
Our practice exams deal with many of the things you will have to do during the practical exam. You will be better prepared for the practical exam if you go through all of our questions. Based on the results of our customers when they do the actual tests, GunExams.com does prepare users for both the written and practical tests.

Are the practice exam questions the same as those I'll find on the real exams?
No, it wouldn't be appropriate for us to copy the same questions, even if they weren't copywritten. Our questions do cover the Canadian Firearms Safety Course content and will help you prepare for your exam.

If I make a purchase, how long does it take to get the materials sent to me?
Our system is accessed on-line and you'll have full access as soon as your payment is processed.  Usually it only take a few minutes and you can get started.  Nothing is mailed to you as all of our study material is on-line.

Is there a limit on the number of questions or how long I have access to the practice exams?
There is no time limit to your system access.  There is a limit of 1000 questions in each exam package.  The vast majority of our customers find that they're ready for their actual firearms exams before they reach the question limit.

Why don't the questions take into account some of the exceptions in the regulations or firearms designs?
The CFSC/CRFSC and their exams do not get into many of the details concerning exceptions to the firearms regulations or how some rare guns might change answers. Our practice exams follow the same keep it simple philosophy. The purpose of this site is to help people better understand gun safety and successfully challenge the CFSC/CRFSC exams, not test firearms experts in their knowledge of firearms trivia.

How can I find an examiner to conduct the actual test in my area?
Call the Canadian Firearms Centre at 1-800-731-4000.

Where can I get a firearms licence application?
You can download the application form here.

Why can't I now challenge the tests without doing the course?
Changes to the Firearms Act which came into effect on 18 June, 2015 make completion of the courses mandatory for new licence applicants. This is entirely beyond our control. Contact your Federal MP if you would like to see this changed.

We make getting your Firearms Possession and Acquisition License easier!

In most provinces the Canadian Firearms Safety Course Exam(s) must be passed in order to get a Possession and Acquisition Licence. Doing the practice exams on Gun Exams is a great way to prepare for the actual course exams. As some of the methods taught in the government's courses are different from other safety courses, it's important even for experienced shooters and hunters to do their homework.

Preparing for the CRFSC test?

Gun Exams also has practice exams that help you prepare for the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course Exam. This exam is needed along with the CFSC in order to get a licence that lets you acquire handguns or restricted rifles.
